What's the difference between Anvil and Bypass secateurs?

Anvil Secateurs give more of a "crushing" cut, making use of a sharp blade which presses down onto smooth metal. Best used for cutting or chopping dead wood as they do tend to bruise plant tissue. Bypass Secateurs, however make use of two blades that pass by each other, allowing for a far cleaner cut, perfectly suited for cutting live plant tissue, alongside semi-woody garden bushes and shrubs.
