Make time to enjoy your garden in the long summer evenings!

  • Prune wisteria now.
  • Cut back faded perennial plants to keep borders tidy.
  • Water early morning or at dusk to reduce evaporation.
  • Deadhead Penstemon to encourage more flowering shoots.
  • Pinch out side shoots from vine tomatoes and feed with a high potash food.
  • Harvest Garlic.
  • Prune Cherries and plums now, to avoid Silver Leaf disease.
  • Check lilies regularly for bright red lily beetles – or their grubs. Remove and destroy.
  • Roses should be deadheaded regularly – spray with a fungicide if rust and black spot are prevalent.
  • Feed bedding plants with a tomato fertiliser and deadhead regularly to extend flowering.
