Lupins are a favourite border perennial. These border plants are cottage-garden staples, with bold spires of brightly coloured flowers in spring and early summer.
Lupins are great for planting in bold drifts with ornamental grasses and other tall perennials, such as bearded irises and delphiniums. They make brilliant cut flowers too.
Lupins should be grown somewhere sheltered, as they can grow quite tall and tend to be top-heavy, protect from harsh winds which may cause them to loose their flowers.
Growing & Care
Plant in full sun to light shade (more sun = more flowers).
Lupins like well-drained, moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Add grit to clay, avoid rich soil.
A sheltered spot protects tall flower spikes from wind.
Dig a hole and plant the same depth as the pot; firm the soil and water well.
