Forsythias are a genus of deciduous flowering shrubs that belong to the olive family. Hardy and robust, they are low-maintenance and fast-growing. Known for their long branches laden with brilliant yellow flowers in early spring, they provide a cheerful backdrop for any garden.
Most will eventually grow to about 2m tall and wide, so allow enough space if you want your plant to develop its natural shape.
Forsythia are tolerant of a wide range of soils, and can also be planted as a flowering hedge.
The best time to plant forsythia is spring or autumn.
They like full sun but can tolerate partial shade. However, forsythias in sun will bloom more than those in shady spots.
Allow young plants to develop naturally, remove any dead or damaged shoots in late spring after flowering. Established forsythias need annual pruning after flowering.

CAMELLIA
Camellia are easy to grow evergreens. They are ideal for containers. Their flamboyant flowers appear early in the season, when not much else is flowering.
With a variety of colours to choose from, camellias are ranked as one of the best flowering shrubs.
