Why choose Kadai?

The use of Kadai cooking bowls in India has been a tradition for countless years. But it wasn’t until 2005 when Wilstone came up with the novel idea of placing the fire within the cooking bowl.
with that, the Kadai Firebowl was born. Made in India by recycling out of use Oil drums, Wilstone then make use of local craftsmen who hand beat every recycled fire pit into shape.

The great thing about a Kadai Bowl is it’s not only visually pleasing, they’re actually quite intuitive. Making use of both a high stand and low stand. Meaning you can use the Kadai bowl as a BBQ by placing it into the high stand, or if you’d rather you can set it up in the low stand and enjoy some toasted Marshmallows with great company.

The “Hand-Made” aesthetic gives each individual Kadai bowl it’s very own sense of character.  Here at Monkton Elm, we can’t get enough of these wonderful products and we’re certain you’ll love them too.

FAQS

No, you don’t necessarily need to treat your Kadai bowl. It may be worthwhile going over it every now and then with a wire brush, so as to remove some of the rust that will gather over time. You can even clean it now and then using a rag and something as simple as vegetable oil. However, they will age over time and this only adds to their aesthetic quality.

Yes. One of the Kadai firebowl’s most appealing attributes is the ability to be used as both a fire pit and BBQ. All official Kadai firebowls come with both a high & low stand as well as a cooking grill. Simply place the bowl in the low stand for use as a fire pit, or if you’d rather, lift it up into the high stand and use it as a BBQ.

It all depends on what you intend to use your Kadai firebowl for on any given night. If you had decided you would like to sit around it with a few friends, we would say use some good old fashioned logs- preferably kiln dried.
or, if you fancied a BBQ, we’d say go ahead and use some charcoal. remembering to place either one on top of a good layer of Kadai beads. This helps raise the fire closer to the cooking grill and creates a protective layer that keeps the fire from the base of the bowl.

A large part of the Kadai brand’s popularity stems from their “Handmade” aesthetic. Each bowl is made in India, using local craftsmen and using recycled oil drums in order to get the appropriate materials needed for each bowl. They are not only aesthetically pleasing, but very sturdy and of a level of construction that far exceeds most other fire bowls on the market. Thus, they have garnered a rather deserved following of loyal fans.
