Plant Of The Month | May 2025

Prized for their large, showy blooms, peonies are a popular perennial that will return to your garden year after year.

Peonies take a while to settle in before they flower, so its important to buy a well-established plant for the best possible start.

Peonies will thrive in full sun or part shade. If possible plant in a sheltered position. Peonies benefit from feeding once a year, we suggest Vitax Q4.

Some of the taller varieties will require a plant support to assist with keeping the stems aloft. Place the support over the peony in the early spring. For herbaceous perennial peonies, remember to cut back dead foliage in the autumn, ready to re-emerge next spring.

Peonies are not too fussy, but they do not transplant well.

They are low-maintenance and can live for decades in the garden, blooming more every year.
