Our Plant Of The Month for June 2022
Our plant of the month for June is the wonderful Geranium Rozanne.
When Rozanne Waterer and her husband, Donald, discovered an unusual- looking seedling growing at the end of their garden in the sleepy village of Kilve in Somerset, 1989, they initially thought they had
a rogue plant in their flower bed. Now, the little geranium that the retired couple managed to cultivate has won an accolade they could not have dreamt of. Geranium ‘Rozanne’, named after Mrs Waterer and featuring violet blue flowers streaked with red, was named Plant of the Centenary at the Chelsea Flower Show!
Flowering from June to September, these hardy plants are ideal for suppressing weeds at the front of a mixed or herbaceous border and will keep your bees and other pollinators happy for months!
Geranium Rozanne are vigorous plants with a spreading habit and tolerate heat better when in part shade. They make superb ground cover but are incredibly versatile and are equally happy in pots, troughs or trailing over tubs. Perfect for planting in rose gardens and wildflower planting schemes, or in perennial borders in cottage gardens.
Geranium Rozanne (also known as Cranesbill) is very low maintenance as a ground cover and will tolerate any soil other than waterlogged areas and will be happy in full sun, partial shade or full shade. In midsummer rejuvenate plants that are beginning to look jaded, by removing old, flowered stems and leaves, and split the clumps in spring if they are getting too large.
